Our Story

The Spanish Playhouse began with a simple belief: children learn best when they are immersed, inspired, and joyfully engaged. In 2021, Julissa and Jorge set out to create a place where Spanish would come alive through art, music, movement, and imagination. Both are trained musicians with music degrees. Julissa brought 20 years of teaching children, and Jorge, a multi-instrumentalist, brought the original music and the artistry that fill the Playhouse. Together they shared a dream of raising bilingual children inside the warmth of Latino family life. What began with a handful of families soon grew into a vibrant community of children who don't just learn Spanish, they live it.

THREE GENERATIONS

But our roots run deeper than one classroom. Immersion has been part of our family for three generations: it began with Julissa's mother, who ran an immersive Spanish daycare, carried into Julissa's own 20 years of teaching children, and now lives on in her daughter Amelia, who teaches the children in our online courses. For us, Spanish was never a subject. It was always home.

From the beginning, our approach stood out. Instead of traditional instruction, we created an environment where Spanish is lived through art, storytelling, music, play, and meaningful connection. Families quickly noticed the difference. Their children weren't just learning a language. They were embracing it with excitement and pride.

As our community grew, so did our possibilities. In 2024, we expanded into a two-story facility on Rochambeau Avenue and introduced our daily and full-week programs for children ages 3-11. With thoughtful renovations and a passionate team, we transformed the space into a warm, creative home for immersive, arts-based learning, designed to spark curiosity, nurture confidence, and support the whole child.

Looking ahead, we are bringing The Spanish Playhouse to families everywhere. Our online courses, taught by our daughter Amelia, carry the same blend of language and the arts that defines our in-person program. Because Amelia teaches bilingually, guiding each child in English and teaching the Spanish, even a complete beginner is never lost, and you do not need to speak a word of Spanish at home to begin. Original music, educational videos, and beautifully designed materials are extending what we do in Providence into homes across the country.

Yet at the heart of our journey is something timeless: community. We believe children thrive when families, educators, and a shared purpose come together. We hope you will join us in this ever-growing adventure and become part of a community where children shine, creativity leads the way, and learning feels like magic.
